Reasons Why You Need to Drink More Water

Let’s put it this way: If our bodies were machines, water would be the oil that revs and lubes up our internal engines. However, despite this fact, our bodies don’t always alert us when they don’t get enough of it. In fact, you may think you’re meeting your daily hydration needs simply because you aren’t experiencing the sensation of thirst throughout the day. But it’s not always the case. Sometimes, you have to actively hydrate yourself even when the signs of intense thirst seem to be absent.

In this article, we’re going to briefly summarize why it’s so important to make sure you stay hydrated--even when you may not feel like you need to.

Our bodies actually ARE water.

Believe it or not, the average human body is made up of between 50% and 60% water. So making sure that level stays where it should is a constant balancing act--but one that’s way worth your time.

Water will help increase or stabilize your metabolism.

Your body may not always show you its dehydrated in the form of thirst, but dehydration has many more symptoms you should be aware of. If you feel constipated, for example, it could be (and usually is) a result of some form of dehydration. Our bodies need water to get waste out of our body. If we don't drink water, we don't flush out waste and it collects in our body causing a myriad of problems. Also combined with fiber, water can cure constipation.

It keeps you from getting headaches.

The cells in our brain require a constant influx and outflux of water to stay on their game and that delicate dance is heavily dependent on your drinking habits. Ever notice how when you start your work day with your morning coffee, you get that caffeine high, but by around noon, you start to fade and even sometimes, get a headache? Coffee is a dehydrating beverage, and so those drinking lots of it should also be counteracting with plenty of water.

Some simple remedies? Every day, you should aim to drink half your bodyweight in ounces of water. So, for example, if you weigh 160 lbs, you should be drinking 80 oz of water each day.
